The OMM is THE original mountain marathon - the largest mountain marathon in the world.
The OMM event has been held each year since 1968. It is the original mountain marathon and forerunner of all adventure racing. The OMM is a mountain running event and is always held on the last weekend in October. This ensures a respectable challenge for competitors who must face uncertain weather conditions and shorter days to complete the event. Competitors race in pairs in different distance categories; either opting for a straight up running course between checkpoints or an orienteering "Score" event. The Score event makes for very tactical racing, as points are awarded and taken away depending on the checkpoints visited, and whether you make it back in time!
 
Whatever distance or category you choose, you know you are going to be challenged on your descision making, navigation, endurance, camp knowhow and sense of humor! The overnight camp is often in a very remote location and the atmosphere is great whatever the weather. All your kit for the weekend and overnight stay goes with you so every ounce counts.
In 2006 along with new sponsorship came a new name, but with the same great organisational team. Previously known as the Karrimor International Mountain Marathon [KIMM], the event is now known as the OMM.

Today Mike is re-inventing the meaning of "lightweight" with many innovations to create the perfect blend of performance and agility.

The OMM Classic 25 and OMM Classic 32 have been around in one form or another since the first KIMM, just take a look at what the old boys are still wearing at the next mountain marathon or fell race you go to. As fell running equipment has developed over the years, getting lighter and more compact, the OMM backpacks have also evolved into more specialised lrucksacks. The OMM Jirishanca was designed to add to the existing range, offering something a little more hardcore, the ideal mountaineering rucksack. Light enough when stripped down for mountain marathon races and fast and light alpine ascents, yet tough enough to drag up granite rock routes or hump around from bothy to bothy on your way to ticking all of the Scottish munros.
